St James AME Church

By its own account, St James AME Church was at first Levy's Chapel or Long's Chapel in 1887 in an abandoned street car barn on Biltmore Ave. in Asheville. The church says the basement of a new church was begun in 1917. A church building of this name here was built c. 1924. The church says the new St James Church was completed in 1930. The church says the Haith Educational Building was dedicated in 1983.
